Bremen - Vitakraft is launching a special project for environmental protection: the VITA FOREST in the Harz Mountains. Where increasing periods of drought, storms and infestation by the bark beetle have destroyed large stands of trees in the forests of Lower Saxony, the company is committed to climate-stable reforestation.
The planting of the VITA FOREST will initially begin on an area of around two hectares, which will be expanded over time. The aim is to develop a climate-stable mixed forest from a previously species-poor spruce forest. Vitakraft is not only supporting this project with financial resources, but is also getting involved on site as part of employee campaigns.
"With the VITA FOREST, we are entering into a strong, regional partnership with the Lower Saxony State Forests and thus making a direct contribution to the preservation of our nature," explains Dr. Nicole Rabehl, Head of R&D, Quality Assurance and Sustainability at Vitakraft. "This project makes our commitment to sustainability and climate protection tangible and transparent."
In April 2025, the company will launch its first planting campaign, in which around 30 employees will actively help out on site in the Harz Mountains. "With this campaign, we are offering our employees the opportunity to become active in the field of environmental protection themselves and to learn more about the diverse interrelationships of our local forests. At the same time, we are promoting team spirit," says Dr. Thomas Jung, Head of People & Culture at Vitakraft.
"We are delighted to have the support of our common goal of preparing the forest for climate change. So that it remains a habitat, water reservoir, wood supplier, climate protector and place of recreation in the future," says Mathias Aßmann, Division Manager and Company Spokesman of Niedersächsische Landesforsten Braunschweig.
From 2026, there will also be annual joint maintenance campaigns by Vitakraft and the State Forests, where employees can once again lend a hand to support VITA FOREST in its development.
